The Brown County Democrat is an award-winning weekly community newspaper based in Nashville, Indiana, that serves as the primary print and digital news source and paper of record for Brown County. Originally established in 1870 by the George W. Allison family under the name The Jacksonian, the publication adopted its current title in 1883 and built a local legacy that famously inspired the regional community adage, “It’s not Wednesday until you’ve read the Democrat”. Following generations of local family ownership, the paper was acquired by Home News Enterprises in 2002 and later sold to AIM Media Indiana in 2015. On September 1, 2026, the publication officially transitioned to new ownership under West Virginia-based HD Media LLC.
