About The Daily Journal
The Daily Journal is a prominent local morning newspaper based in Franklin, Indiana, that serves as the primary print and digital news source and paper of record for Johnson County and the southside of Indianapolis. Tracing its roots back to a local newspaper rivalry in the 1880s, the modern publication solidified its market position in December 1969 by absorbing its afternoon competitor, The Franklin Evening Star. After decades of operation under Home News Enterprises, the newspaper was sold to AIM Media Indiana in 2015, and subsequently transitioned to West Virginia-based HD Media LLC on September 1, 2026. The multi-time Hoosier State Press Association Blue Ribbon daily delivers hyper-local coverage of municipal government proceedings, local healthcare developments, community milestones, obituaries, and Johnson County high school athletics.
